Brigid McCaw, MD

Emergency Medicine, East Bay Area

Family Violence Prevention Program

In 1998, Dr. McCaw launched the Family Violence Prevention Project, an integrative approach to identifying patients who are in abusive relationships and helping them obtain appropriate services. The program uses everything from exam-room posters to awareness training for providers, to help members who are victims of domestic violence seek counseling from Richmond’s domestic violence evaluator. This program is now being implemented in the Diablo Service Area, Fresno, Hayward and Vallejo.

In addition, Dr. McCaw has been a vocal advocate for domestic violence prevention outside of Kaiser Permanente – appearing in the media, testifying before legislative groups in Sacramento and Washington, and presenting at numerous medical meetings.
