Randy Bergen, MD

Pediatrics, Diablo Service Area

Before Randy Bergen, MD, joined TPMG in 1992, he worked abroad in strife-torn areas of Liberia, South India, and in Cambodian refugee camps in Thailand.

Perhaps a seed was sown during one of these experiences that steered him towards a career in pediatrics with a subspecialty in infectious diseases.

He’s been recognized for pioneering research that established the safety of the CAIV vaccine in children over a certain age. Based on the results, the Food and Drug Administration recommended the nasal flu vaccine be used only in children five years of age and older.

Dr. Bergen was the first TPMG doctor to attend the National Flu Summit, jointly sponsored each year by the CDC and the AMA.
