A self-described jack-of-all-trades, KP Santa Rosa family medicine physician Catherine Gutfreund, MD, consistently leads with clarity, courage, and compassion.

Dr. Gutfreund currently serves as Assistant Physician-in-Chief for Outpatient Quality at KP Santa Rosa. A long-standing member of the medical center’s executive leadership team, her numerous roles have included women’s health liaison, inaugural Physician-in-Charge of KP Santa Rosa’s Mercury Way medical offices, and clinical lead of outpatient care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She is also involved in health care policy and advocacy at the state and national levels, serving three terms on the California Medical Association board, as an American Medical Association delegate, and current chair of its Council on Legislation.

In recent years, Dr. Gutfreund’s leadership has focused on depression care and family violence. As TPMG lead of Adult and Family Medicine, she guided implementation of a comprehensive depression care management program; and she serves on KP’s program wide depression guidelines committee, which is shaping standards of care across the regions. She served as co-chair of TPMG’s Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) program and advanced trauma-informed care initiatives as a Family Violence Prevention Champion.

“Any time our members walk into any department, we need to focus on how we can truly support them in living their best lives,” Dr. Gutfreund says. “We must prioritize the recognition and screening of family violence and depression.”
