Since becoming the Chief of Hospital Medicine in 2016, Chizoba Nwosu, MD, has fostered a culture of creativity and collaboration that has left an indelible mark. One of her many outstanding contributions has been to diversify the practice of hospital-based specialists to extend outside of inpatient care, which significantly improved access and care for members and patients.
With her selfless and humble leadership style, Dr. Nwosu took the initiative to establish an outpatient procedure clinic as well as co-lead the design and creation of a new Med-Psych Unit.
Always seeking innovative solutions and optimizing technology, Dr. Nwosu implemented a “virtual cross-cover” physician role to provide remote patient care during cross cover hours at both hospitals. This reduced the number of non-urgent calls to the in-house physician attending to critically ill patients.
Of all of her achievements, Dr. Nwosu is especially proud of recruiting highly skilled physicians and being able to retain them. She is committed to providing opportunities for her team, to enhance their skills and encourage collaboration across departments to improve workflows, outcomes, and communication. “As a leader, it’s very rewarding to see my team evolve, grow into better clinicians, serve on various committees, and take on more leadership roles.”
