-Christopher Walker, MD, physician-in-chief, KP Napa-Solano

Ted O’Connell, MD, is a beloved teacher, leader, author of 18 medical textbooks and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, podcast host, blogger, mentor, and inspiration to hundreds if not thousands of medical students, professionals, and leaders nationwide.

Dr. O’Connell is the inaugural program director for KP Northern California’s first Family Medicine residency program in Vallejo, California, and believes teaching is one of the best ways to contribute to the field of medicine. He sees youth development as an ideal tool for building diversity, equity, and inclusion in the medical workforce.

As founding co-chair of TPMG’s Diversity and Social Justice Committee, Dr. O’Connell has helped recruit applicants from populations typically under-represented in medicine. “I’m most proud of the strength of training in our residency, that we continue to maintain academic excellence and outstanding patient care while staying true to the core purpose of
community medicine and social justice.”
