Patricia Hiserote, DO, MSHPE

Program Director, Family Medicine Residency, KP Santa Rosa

“Dr. Hiserote embodies the spirit of providing a collaborative, integrated learning environment that will support our future physicians. I have been fortunate enough to witness firsthand the passion and commitment to exceptional leadership that she exhibits every day.”
-Michael Shulman, MD, physician-in-chief, KP Santa Rosa

Passionate about medical education, Patricia Hiserote, DO, facilitated the development and formation of Kaiser Permanente’s Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency program, which began in 2018. The program graduated its first class of residents in June 2021.

Starting a family medicine residency is a challenging endeavor, but Dr. Hiserote knew that Sonoma County was facing a primary care physician shortage and felt a strong foundation of primary care would increase the wellness of her community. She was committed to building a residency program to train future physicians using Kaiser Permanente’s high-quality, patient-centered approach.

To make her dream a reality, Dr. Hiserote developed relationships between primary and specialty care services for both inpatient and outpatient. She achieved this through collaboration and clear articulation of the program’s importance, impact, and mission to a wide variety of stakeholders within Santa Rosa and across Kaiser Permanente’s medical centers.

Dr. Hiserote’s vision for building their Family Medicine Residency program was and remains to train physicians of the future who practice Permanente Medicine, who come from the communities they serve, and who are committed to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in healthcare.

Dr. Hiserote also helps to lead KP ACCESS, a community service partnership that closes the gaps in specialty medical care for the uninsured in Sonoma County while providing learning opportunities for family medicine residents.
