David Ng, MD, DDS
“Dr. David Ng represents the very best of physician leadership. He is retiring after 33 years of service to TPMG, leaving a legacy of untiring dedication, insightful innovation, and inspired leadership.”
— Rita Ng, MD, physician-in-chief, KP East Bay
Always forward-thinking, David Ng, MD, challenges those around him to think creatively and to constantly innovate. Throughout his long career, Dr. Ng has advanced revolutionary ideas that now underpin the unique care delivery system within Kaiser Permanente.
Never one to back away from new ideas, Dr. Ng embraced the launch of the Appointment and Advice Call Center—met initially with skepticism by emergency medicine groups. Remarkably, this clinical work now informs physician understanding of the larger patient care experience throughout KP.
Dr. Ng also played an instrumental role in the development of the Critical Care Transport Program, which repatriates members back to their home KP facility from non-plan emergency hospitals across northern California. This service has restored continuity of care and improved clinical outcomes for countless members by providing physician expertise before and during monitored transport back to our KP facilities.
Within his own department, Dr. Ng promoted the notion of hosting residents from Highland Hospital’s nationally acclaimed emergency medicine residency program, leading to a formal affiliation between our two emergency departments. He also established schedules for physicians that balance the needs of patients while also promoting physician wellness. These accomplishments form the basis of an emergency department that continues to grow and thrive today.
